"What's wrong, darling?"

Norma pulled up a footrest and sat on it, regarding Sarah intently.

Sarah, seated on the couch with her yellow legal pad in her lap, realised that she had been staring at the blank TV set. She managed a laugh.

"It's just… work. A tricky situation that I don't know how to handle. Two tricky situations actually."

"Anything you want to talk about? It could help, you know - to talk about it."

Sarah looked at Norma's wonderfully familiar face. It was hard to imagine spending the first almost-18 years of her life without even knowing that this woman - and her grandfather - existed. How had she managed before them?

"No, that's okay. But thanks, Grandma."

"Anytime, darling. Maybe Daniel?"

"Yeah, I think so." Sarah reached for her phone.

Norma rose to leave.

"Let me know if you change your mind," she said with a sad smile.

Daniel hadn't come over for dinner that night, citing extreme exhaustion from his early-morning exercise regime coupled with an even earlier start the next day. When he didn't answer after six rings, Sarah was sure he must already be in bed. Finally, to Sarah's relief, Daniel's warm voice filled her ear just before she could hang up.

"Babe, hi. How was your day?"

"Ugh, not the best. Better now though. I missed you tonight."

"Yeah, me too. My two-minute noodles just can't compare to Norma's spag bog."

"Ha. Was it only the food you missed?" She was smiling now. It always amazed Sarah how quickly Daniel could brighten her mood.

"Yeah… pretty much. Yep. Can't think of anything else."

"Loser," Sarah laughed.

Daniel laughed too. "So what happened today?"

Sarah told Daniel everything. He already knew about the press release from earlier in the week, but he didn't know about the cancelled press event and the information from Rob Vader's publicist. Finally, she told him of her frustrating meeting with Inspector Larry.

"You're - you're kidding! What a - I can't believe he said that to you. You need to run the story, Sarah. You need to let people know what's going on."

Sarah grimaced as she flipped through the pages of her yellow legal pad.

"I know. You're right, I know. The man's been at the school too many times now, and if Larry's not going to do anything about it, then maybe I really do need to…"

"Not the guy at the school," Daniel interrupted. "No one's going to care about that. I'm talking about Vader. This is huge, Sarah! Just think. You know something that no one else on the planet knows. I say don't bother going to Larry anymore. We both know he's incompetent, so just keep it for yourself."

"What do you mean no one's going to care about the guy at the school? That's the story I'm thinking of writing up, not Vader."

Silence rang between them.

"Okay, what Larry said got to me, I'll admit it," Sarah continued. "If it really is some kid's uncle then I'm just gossiping about family stuff. But what if it's not? I'm trying to look at the worst-case scenario here. If it's a harmless uncle, fine, maybe it's gossip.
